$1.00 per slice New York Pizza?

About a month ago I noticed this pizza place on 25th street and sixth avenue called “2 Bros Pizza – St. Marks”… This is another location based off the pizzeria on St. Marks that caters to the NYU crowd. The idea of a $2.75 lunch(2 slices and a soda) seemed quite appealing, as that nearly seems impossible in NYC these days.

So, I headed over there and noticed a line extending out of the pizzeria, but it looked manageable. As I waited on the line, anxious lunch-goers talked about how great it was for the money. Really, when a great deal comes along, how can you pass it up?

As the line started to move, and I made my way in, I could see the assembly line of pizza-makers, pies and the cashier, all moving at a brisk pace. I was impressed, as not many places know how to hustle like this and obviously they understood their motto is “speed and volume”.

As I made my way down the line, I realized the slices that I would be getting were fresh by a few minutes, if not straight out of the oven… which, in my opinion, is the best way to eat pizza. There’s something about the warm bread, melted cheese and tomato sauce that always makes me enjoy “hot” pizza.

I finally got to the cashier and put in my order… $2.75 with my ice tea! What a great deal! And within a New York Minute, I had two fresh, hot slices of pizza and a can of ice tea.

So how was the pizza? It was really pretty good. Now, I’m a big fan of Marriella Pizza on 17th Street and Third, so nothing will ever beat that for me… However, on a scale of 1-10, I would rate this at an 8. Definitely above average, tasty and filling. Some pizza places in New York have the pizza pies sitting around for hours, which I don’t like, and 2 Bros make the pizza in front of you in an open kitchen.

Anyway, I came away from 2 Bros on 25th and 6th very impressed! I will definitely frequent this New York Pizzeria, as $2.75 is definitely worth an investment for lunch compared to the $10 sandwiches and drink charged around the area.

No. 7 Sub – Gourmet Sandwich Shop In Manhattan

One of the better, quirky sandwich places in the Flatiron district is No. 7 Sub. They have a nice funky combination of sandwiches that you normally won’t find in a regular place.

I usually enjoy the Roast Turkey Sandwich with Blue Cheese, Pickled Melon, Dijon and basil. I’ve ventured with other sandwiches, but the Roast Turkey is definitely where it’s at.

The beverage offerings are limited, so I tend to opt for my own Ice Tea from another store. If you get there around noon, the turnover is about 10-15 minutes…

I’m a creature of habit, so I like to stop by here once every week or two, depending on my schedule. There is a Brooklyn location too, but I haven’t ventured out to that neck of the woods in years. Also, they do serve breakfast, but I definitely prefer the lunch’s :)

Empire State Building

Empire State Building

A Beautiful Evening In NYC

It’s always nice to see the Empire State Building lit up at night. It truly is a privilege to walk by it every day. The lobby is quite amazing itself with all the touches of the best “Art Deco” design of that era.

The Empire State Building is a 102-stories located on  Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street.

Flatiron District (And the Flatiron Building)

The Flatiron district is one of New York city’s oldest areas that still has an early 20th century feel(for the most part) with most of the original buildings intact. At one point this area was considered “Uptown” New York.

The designation “Flatiron District” for this area is more recent, dating from around 1985, and came about because of its increasingly residential character, and the influx of many restaurants into the area. Before that, the area was primarily commercial, and was often known as the “Photo District” because of the large number of photographers’ studios and associated businesses located there. A part of the area was known as the “Toy District”, because of the toy manufacturers located in the Toy Center buildings at 23rd Street and Broadway and the area around it, and the annual American International Toy Fair that has taken place there since 1903 (except for 1945).

What’s great about this area is that it contains some of the hottest restaurants and shopping in New York City. There are also a lot of converted commercial spaces that are now private residences to some of the wealthier New York City residents.

Every major clothing brand has a store in the Flatiron district and you can shop for hours within only a few blocks. In addition, you have some of the best restaurants in the world within steps of your shopping.

The great part about the Flatiron District is that it really serves as market for distinguishing the Westside of New York to the Eastside of New York. There are very locations that serve this purpose in New York. You can also get a great view of the Empire State Building facing uptown…

Eating At Eataly

Would you like a taste of high end Italian gourmet? I would. I work right near here. Every week now, I stop by and try out something new. Today I went for the panini sandwiches.

Growing up in New York City, my mother would go down to little Italy and pick up fresh bread, mozzarella and prosciutto. It’s a luxury in New York, a city with so many immigrants, that you get a very diverse sense of culture and taste.

Lydia(of the great Felidia) and Chef Mario Batali, the two owners of Eataly have basically taken the old Balducci’s concept(the first gourmet brand store in NYC) and SUPERSTORED it. It’s HUGE! You almost feel like you are in a mall.

The desserts are also pretty amazing. It looks very crowded from the outside, but its actually quite open and airy. Go in and check it out. There’s also a cool espresso bar…

Shake Shack

For Burgers and Shakes, New York’s very own Shake Shack has been a runaway hit over the past few years. Created by the great restauranteur Danny Meyer, Shake Shack has become a New York culinary sensation! You can order a double shack (two burgers with cheese and sauce) and one of many milk shakes. I prefer the black and white!

There are several locations throughout New York City! Check it out on the link below.
